Top 10 excursions from Jianshui

Top 10 excursions from Jianshui

  1. Twin Dragons Bridge

A beautiful bridge of 130 meters and 17 arches built in the 19th century. It is only one stop, which you can lengthen a bit by observing the beautiful bridge from both angles, but one of the most beautiful stops you can make in the area.

  1. Tuanshan walled village.

Completely preserved with its original buildings. Visiting it slowly, entering in some of the houses, the temples and the garden may require a couple of hours or more. At the gate there are some restaurants.

  1. Zhengying Village of Shiping.

With the best set of aristocratic houses in Yunnan. Less than an hour by a good highway from Jianshui, it will be a very interesting experience.

  1. The Swallow Grotto.

With spectacular scenery of stalactites and stalagmites. A place to enjoy if there are few people, and to run away from if it is high season and there are many local groups.

  1. Gejiu: the city of the Lake.

Without great cultural attractions or ancient monuments, the city of Gejiu is spectacular by itself, as it is just the three open streets between the beautiful mountains and the impressive lake. Don’t look for exoticism, but to lose yourself for a while in a pleasant atmosphere among the local population.

      1. Tonghai Monumental Complex and Xiushan Mountain.

Most travelers ignore it, with its tight schedule of visits, but the streets of the old quarter and Xiushan Mountain are well worth a visit.

      1. The Mongolian world of Menghai district.

The visit is so easy, at least superficially, that if the guide is eager to please, he will suggest a stop at the market and at the temple of the Mongol ancestors. One must feel that one is in the presence of a unique human group, the only descendants of the Mongols of Gengish Khan in Yunnan.

      1. Chengzi, the fascinating village of yin and yang.

Erected on the mountainside to avoid attacks during the frequent wars, it has a unique architectural structure.

      1. The Muslim world of Yunnan and the Great Mosque of Shadian.

Muslims came to Yunnan by the hand of the Mongols. In Shadian is the largest mosque in China.

      1. Yuanyang Terraces.

If you visit the Yuanyang Terraces, you will have to spend at least one night there (I recommend two), because once you have reached Jianshui you should not miss one of the wonders of China.
