The Rabbit in the Chinese horoscope
The rabbit is a tender and adorable animal, which highlights its extraordinary fertility, perhaps that is why in the Chinese horoscope is the animal most closely related to the moon, the female star par excellence. This extraordinary fertility makes it be considered the essence of the feminine principle of yin nature (in the philosophy of yin yang), and we could say that in Chinese literature it has always assumed some of the most feminine attributes. The sweetness, mixed with a certain mysterious air that puzzles men, makes him a beloved animal for all.
His relationship with the beautiful Chang’e, who lives on the moon, makes him a symbol of beauty. But the presence of a jade rabbit on the moon is a very ancient tradition in China, dating back more than two thousand years.
It is generally considered an auspicious animal, although in some episodes it also plays an evil role. In fact the Miao and the Kucong, when they make their calculations to find an auspicious day to start the year, have among their favorites the Rabbit days.
Despite its docile appearance the rabbit is also an animal that can protect against evil spirits and in many rural areas there is a custom of hanging a rabbit’s head made of flour on the door of their houses. The rabbit is also a symbol of fertility.
Since in China we are governed by the lunar calendar, and in the West by the solar calendar, the beginning and end of each year do not coincide exactly. Therefore, before knowing what the Chinese horoscope says about your sign, make sure that you were indeed born under the sign of the Pig, as are the people born on the dates included in the table on the left.
